Microsoft has a tendency to foist their products over what users might prefer. During set up, there's an option in blue text on blue back ground, lower left corner. Use that to keep your preferred program file associations. This kind of nonsense is what got them sued back during the browser wars near the early 2000's. If you don't keep your settings you'll be forced to use Edge (their browser), their media player, their chat program, their word processing program, their image viewer, etc. They are and want to keep being, your neighborhood monopoly for desktops. That said, they did lose (and might completely withdraw) the phone market war. Windows phones had finally gotten good too. They are headed to join the final resting place of the Zune.
