Yeah because they just plucked folks off the street and put them on star ships telling them - you'll figure it out as you go along. Nobody ever bothered to train an engineer, or weapons specialist or a doctor... Captain Kirk became Captain Kirk by pulling his rank out of hat and never studied at the Star Fleet Academy or took exams.

It is really interesting how some creatives are so narrow minded and seem to think the only way to learn is the way they learned.
