Subject: Image Sizes in Gallery

AliceFromLake ( ) posted Fri, 21 August 2015 at 8:54 AM

Sorry, but I can not understand why the size is now restricted. I worked for many years with a bigger size very well. Why the step backward? People are asking for greater size and Rendo restricts the size? Was is going on in Rendo staff?

A_Sunbeam ( ) posted Fri, 21 August 2015 at 10:42 AM

How many characters are we allowed for an image title now?

Anthony Appleyard ( ) posted Fri, 21 August 2015 at 11:46 AM

Restricting image size to maximum 1200 wide and 1500 high is going to handcuff my style badly. I and many have got used to being allowed images up to at least 1800 wide x 1000 high, i.e. the biggest that (plus edging) can fit into a modern wide-format desktop computer screen.

Those new enormous thumbnails mean longer download times and far fewer thumbnails on a screenful when quickly looking through a gallery. The idea of a thumbnail is to be compact, like the nails on my thumbs that I can see as I type.

JeniferC ( ) posted Fri, 21 August 2015 at 6:03 PM

Please Note: The gallery image size allowance will be updated to allow 4000x4000 full size images soon (like the old site). But please remember that those large images will still be re-sized for the gallery page layout and members will have to click on them to see the full size (and likely have to do a bit of scrolling). We are also going to bring back the ability to auto-create a thumbnail for you. That may be several business days before we can get that working well. Many of the auto-create thumbnails from the old site are some of the fuzzy thumbs that members have been complaining about, and members are welcome to update those.

We didn't remove gallery images, but it took a while a move them all over and some may still not be displaying properly if the original full size was over the 1200x1500. We are working on that and hope to have those properly displaying the larger image sizes soon. The upload and white page issues should also be resolved. And, the writters gallery has been updated to allow 25,000 characters.

If you had a larger than 1200x1500 image, you should see those again soon, but please be patient with all the updates that are in the works.

Thank you very much Jenifer C. your post is deeply appreciated..
Now see, that's all that was needed, just talk to people and tell us what issues and how things will be addressed, that we have been heard. That's all we wanted, I'll tell ya man if anyone ever asks what Browser are you using again I'm going Postal.
As for the displayed images in the Galleries goes it's always been that way, to see a Full True representation of what you uploaded you had to click the image use scroll if your monitor wasn't very big enough
As for Auto Thumbs, never an issue for me I always make custom uniform size thumbs, it's more uniform in the Gallery.

As long as we know things are actually being done about our concerns, I anyway don't mind being patient for a while, but all we were hearing was, You'll get used to it, you'll love it when you learn it, Heres a Tut....That doesn't work

Thanks Lenord. I'm sorry we haven't been able to post as much as we would have liked lately. We have been working to correct the issues that popped up. Even when we don't post, we are still here and we are listening.

The 4000x4000 full size gallery image allowance is live on the site now. And, the .gif avatars should be returning (maybe next week), but we will try to keep everyone updated as we progress down our 'to-do' list.

@4222608 Just one question on Upload limits, what's the File size limit 512k or what?

I think it's higher than 512kb but not sure and not around someone who can check, but please upload whatever size file you have and let us know if you have any problems.

jdstrider ( ) posted Fri, 21 August 2015 at 8:03 PM

@4222608
Thanks for the update JeniferC! I am very pleased to see these issues being addressed. As a software developer I fully understand and appreciate that when you have your head down solving a problem, you don't have a lot of time to communicate. But after 20 years in the biz, I have learned that open and honest communication ALWAYS wins out over silent, brute force effort.
Food for thought.

These changes along with the others that I have seen over the last week have softened my resolve to leave, I would have been sorry to have lost this community and this resource. So thank you, to you and the rest of team that has been silently brute forcing their way through the list of issues!
Do yourself and the rest of the community a big favor and come up for air at least once a day!

I am also painfully aware that most of the communication that developers get is about PROBLEMS or BUGS, so here is a big "Kudos" for all of the good work that has been done. Hopefully, your 'to-do' list will begin to shrink.

@4222630 on of the other fractalists told me they uploaded a 1200x675 and 920K yesterday, maybe it's 1meg that would be fantastic

I'm bummed now.....I can't find my animated Avatar now, maybe it's on the External drive.....

THANK YOU, Jennifer. It is good to know we have been listened to. Please bear in mind that if we didn't care about this community, we wouldn't be on these forums raising holy h###. We would simply find another place to hang out, and leave silently. As jdstrider said above, my intent to leave has softened as well. I will just hang out for a couple weeks to see how everything goes. It looks like you're making progress, and if that's the case I'll start posting art/photography and resume shopping in the marketplace again.

Thank you and the team for your hard work, and for getting back to us!

Crap man, testing limits so far for file size I can't hit the limit with 1920x1080 @ 1.73meg 100%....try larger Dimensions to see if I can hit max Filesize somewhere

Len, I've done a few 3360 X 2100 in MB fiddling with a few of the parameters you've kindly provided - they look awesome... I really need to post a few, and use a few as BGs in some of my Poser stuff. I can, now! Wheeeeeeee! :-D

@ Jennifer
I was just going through my gallery, and it appears that many of my images have been re-sized - they are not the full size they were before the changeover. Do I need to re-upload them, or is that just a glitch?
Thanks.

I mean the full-size images that appear when you click on the gallery image..

Me too man, with Fractals Bigger is better, most of my originals are 9600x5400, have a couple of prints on my walls 10'x7', like living in a Fractalscape.

Too good to last....I just uploaded 2200x1238 everything was fine, Click display image and Full size appeared, cool everything was fine....after reading what Rod said I went and looked again now when I click for Full view it's a small image looks like 1200x675 maybe, that's Bad what happened?!?

Edit

OK I just saw where you mention something about this, old images over the 1200x1500 limits were being resized to original size but may take a while.....I'll give it some time to see if they all get back to original size but I'm not going to upload anything else till things are stable....if that happens

Fantasy Attic has just increased its upload size to 3000x3000 and 1500kb. And I believe the general trend is increasing file limits. We need at least double the 512kb limit.

I question I did not have problem before Renderosity change things around I made more than two hunderd entrees in gallery without a problem now I can't. The old saying what not broken do not fix it, I think Renderosity should follow that old saying

JeniferC ( ) posted Sat, 22 August 2015 at 11:27 AM

@4222685 @RodS, the old sizes should still be on our database, and our tech guys are working on it so that the previous large sizes will display.

@4222855 @sandwood12 please explain what you can't upload, and when you last tried. There were problems with uploads early on, but those were resolved.

@4222886 the 2200x1238 image I uploaded last night shows on Zoom as 1200x675 not the 2200x1238, that's not Zoom that's Downsizing. I'm figuring(hoping) that's the same problem with as older images and will be remedied also?

For now, the larger images can be viewed if you do a right click and open in a new window or new tab. We are working to add a button to view the largest size available.

Lenord ( ) posted Sat, 22 August 2015 at 12:31 PM

@4222903 that's not true, I did that and the image displayed was 1600x900 not 2200x1238

@4222911 @Lenord, I am seeing the full size image of 2200x1238, but I did have to right click and then hit the image again (when the zoom icon appeared).
