Subject: Stonemason goes to China without me!

Online Now!

Okay, for like 6 or 7 years I have been trying to get Stonemason to make a modern Asian city.

After being a bloody pain in his arse, he finally goes ahead and makes one.

BUT the bleeding thing is Daz 4.8 only!!!!

Arggh.

He does include OBJs, but the blasted things seem to load in middle of the page because he couldn't be bothered to lay them out for us (at least this was the case for his London set).

It is a BEAUTIFUL set and FAR better than what I was hoping for when I put in the request those many years ago, but damn...

I'm running C7Pro.
Has anyone bought this, used the OBJs and gotten decent results??

Thanks

I haven't bought this, but I imagine the results will be the same as the London set. I really love Stonemason's work, but now I'm going to be saving a bit more money by not buying them. Too bad, really. :(

They do have material files this time, but they do not seem to work in Carrara. If import an obj, it imports to the correct location, but cannot find the material file. the obj files are not in the runtime folder, but in a general folder at the same level. Then Carrara starts looking for a file called texturesstonemasonavisctMeatalBeam.jpg where the actual filename in the material file is is texturesstonemasonav1sctMetalBeam.jpg under the runtime folder.

Edit: well that did not work. there is a backslash ( the forum will not display a backslash symbol) between textures and stonemason and stonemason and av1, but the files are under an sct not an av1 subdirectory/

You can hunt the files individually and get them loaded, but it is not seamless.

OK, I edited a couple of the material files and got them to work. I opened them in notepad and replaced all backslashes with forward slashes and the file opens fine.

I think that when something is bought, one is in right not to have to work on to make it work… If this item doesn't work, don't buy it !
If it's too late, request a refund.

Same here. I will continue to avoid DUF files and live with my ~70 Stonemason products.

A lot of times the DUF files load fine for me in Carrara8.5, I don't have this set though so can't test it, but maybe will pick it up to give it a try...

In the meantime I just loaded up Stonemason's Contemporary Living scene which I added as a .duf Studio file to my 'My Daz Library' folder, just to test the theory. It loaded into Carrara fine, and I did a quick Octane render of the scene 'as is' without changing a single texture except to make the ceiling lights octane emitters. Seemed to work great for me, not sure why the Chinatown scene would be any different, but now that I'm curious I might have to pick it up and give it a try.

Sidenote: Duf textures and the texture translations of Studio textures into Carrara seem pretty good, right off the bat. I loathe Studio and up til now have loaded everything into Carrara usually from Poser, but the textures always require lots of changing. I think I could get away with duf version textures without much change.

...of course, being a Carrarist, I would still have to tinker with textures as that's now part of my nature :) But it is interesting to see that Studio textures apparently translate much better than Poser textures.
