Subject: Shine a Light on Only One Object

Crispycraft ( ) posted Thu, 17 September 2015 at 8:57 AM ยท edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 4:40 PM

I'm using Poser 10, and I was wondering if there is a way to shine a light on only one object in a scene (Light only hits the one specific object and nothing else around it). I know that this could be done with Carrara, but what about Poser?

Use a spotlight and change angle start & angle stop until you get the effect you're looking for. Render 1.png

If you're asking does Poser have an obvious control for this, no it does not.

If anyone were to ask is it impossible or possible, the answer is it is possible, through very clever hackery with materials. I wrote a thread on this, but it can no longer be found because the search engine here is a piece of ...

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

That's still lighting the floor and the other objects. This answer isn't an answer.

Oops! Sorry, that one above is set to Angle Start 15 & End at 32. IF IDL is off, nothing else will get light.
The one below is set to Angel Start 6.2 & End at 24.25. Angle End & IDL OFF in render settings are the key. Hope that helps & happy rendering. ๐Ÿ˜ƒRender 2.png

Still lighting the other objects. What are you not getting about the question?

I edited the post. I had IDL on and if you make the floor invisible it won't be in the render. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I'm just trying to help but had I seen your post before mine, I wouldn't said anything cause you 'da man! I'd just render the one object with a black background and export it as a png, open in my image editor & do the rest by hand.

Do you not see the floor there - it is lit. I won't keep beating you up about it but wow - this is a technical question and your answer is incorrect.

Thanks for the reply, bagginsbill. I'll try to figure something out on post production. ;)

The trouble I'm having with my scene is that I'm using many mirrors and I need one figure to collect more light without light reflection in the mirrors. Because of the needed reflections on the figure, I can't turn off (make invisible) the other objects in the scene.
