Subject: Anyone else having trouble buying artists work due unrelated advertising

blaisdel ( ) posted Thu, 17 September 2015 at 6:11 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 9:41 AM

When the new site design came on line, I sent a message to IT and Mkt asking for review of the harm being done by the Ad banners interrupting scrolling. Haven't heard anything back. My purchases are off a couple of hundred dollars per month (on rosity) because the catalog is so hard to move through (Ad every quarter page halts my scroll). I can't see how this is helping rosity artists. It appears to just be a profit margin topic. Wondering if anyone else is seeing a problem from the Ad banners that are not helping artists. Thanks for any help, jim

You are definitely not the first person to complain about this.

What I would say, is that it is important that customers continue to make their voices heard very clearly if there is anything getting in the way of your enjoyment and easy navigation of the marketplace, or the site in general. You guys ARE our business after all. (This is me speaking as a vendor, I am not staff here and not speaking for anyone but myself).

Thank you for taking the time to post your concerns here rather than simply quietly taking your business elsewhere! This is important feedback. Hopefully it will be noticed and a more customer-friendly solution for placement of external ads is found eventually. Losing customers over this sort of thing is a serious issue as far as I am concerned.

I am checking a bit myself now, and it seems that the biggest issue must be on the page MP Home? That seems to be the one with the most ads. I am not using AdBlocker.

When I go into the departments, there is only one banner ad at the top (could be a problem on a smaller screen), a sidebar with internal ads on the right side (I'm good with those), and one ad at the bottom of the page (not a problem). Individual stores also seem to have been cleaned up quite lot since the initial site launch. Perhaps some things have been improved since you visited last?

I am not excluding the possibility that we might be using different browsers or screen sizes so our experiences may differ! I am on a widescreen laptop, Windows 7, Firefox.

Hopefully, Renderosity staff will be reading this, so this might be a good opportunity to go into a little more detail on which exact pages have the worst issues, and why - what screen size and browser you are using etc. I do recall seeing that there were some issues with those things. :)

I'm sorry to hear you are having problems!!

Is this on more than one browser? Would you be able to include a screenshot? :)

Site Admin Online Now!

Just install adblock and be done with the adverts altogether. Sorry to the vendors, I can't see your store banners along with all the other worthless and unrelated ads but that leaves me free to easily scroll through your stores. :)

Hi KimberlyC Thank you for your interest in helping with this. You asked for a screenshot and I am providing one. But you will need to imagine that this happens every time I scroll - so dozens of equivalent screenshots per page. I have my page size set so I should be able to continuously scroll through artist's listings in "What's new" and What's Hot". But under the new page regime, when I scroll, I am interrupted on every line (imagine block of three artist's listings), presented with a an ad like the one shown, and then a programmed forced delay of several seconds (presumably to make me view the ad for which you are receiving revenue), I can then view three Renderosity Artist's listings, and the cycle repeats. It makes it impossible for me to review all the artist's listings. I imagine that Jos Bank as the advertiser is ecstatic. I imagine your artist's are infuriated that a consistent buyer is being blocked and caused to go elsewhere for 3D content. I do not know what your page statistics look like, but I'm having a hard time understanding how this will work for your listing artists (and therefore your business model) over the long term. It is not working for me. Thank you again for your interest in the buyer's experience. jim ScreenShotForRosity150925.png

Kalypso, Thank you for your advice on the ad blocker. The ad blocker has adverse impact on pop-up screens on other html and javascript based applications on which I want the functionality of pop-up windows. So I'd rather not use that jack-hammer of a tool - hoping instead that Rosity IT and Mktg would see the harm being done to artists and buyer's and consider stepping back from this business cliff. If we can't get better behavior from the site, I may have to take your advice and set up a special browser just for looking at Rosity. But I can't see how this is helping anyone. Thanks again, jim

Thank you blaisdel! I will bring this up and see what can be done. :)

I am pretty sure that the new site and layout is affecting my use. I am buying fewer items, and have simply become confused by the complex Byzantine structure. The adverts are annoying and lead me to close down far more readily. And frankly, they are not making me stronger Herr Nietzsche!

that is a bad case of malware.

i've seen these cases at dayjob. you need better antivirus or firewall.

something like spybot might find it. beware free malware scanners out there.

Thank you for trying to help me MistyLara, but this occurs on three different machines, two are up to date W10 fully protected by up to date McAfee and the other is W81 also up to date and differently protected. The adverse behavior happens on no other commercial site (e.g., Amazon, EBay, DAZ, Runtime).. And it only began after the launch of the new Rosity site. So, no, we're not going to lay this off on malware or on my platforms. It is coming from the new web site design that has changed how Rosity's store front is feeding Ads.

if you look at the page source, when you see those ads, do you see weird .js scripts?

seeing this, looks suspicious

suspicious.JPG

and seeing .js from ajax

try blocking 'pagead2.googlesyndication.com' [Google AdWords]

www.google-analytics.com

google-analytics.com

ssl.google-analytics.com

Ros'ty might want to look at removing 'pagead2.googlesyndication.com' from their page.
-benefit of the doubt.

Thanks again Misty Lara. I think it is more likely that there is something pathological in Rosity's BuySellAd script. But here is the critical point: It is not my responsibility as the licensee of artists work to inspect Rosity's page source to determine why the site became unworkable after Rostiy's website redesign. I wish that one of the marketers or IT people at Rosity that I asked to have a look at this shortly after the website redesign were showing your level of interest in trying to determine why I'm getting seconds long delay whenever I attempt to scroll through the catalogs of artists' offerings. As I indicated earlier in the thread, I'm not having this problem at any other commercial site that I use. I've successfully licensed a thousand dollars of artists' assets at a competitive site since Rosity made these changes. I've done less than ten percent of that business at Rosity because I can't find and review the artists' assets.I learned long ago to distinguish between problems I own and problems I don't own. I don't own fixing this problem. Thanks again Misty Lara, jim
