Thanks for your suggestions. I solved the clothing problem for now by tweeking the clothing pose dials so that it didn't fit right. Cheating, but it worked! I also found some hair, but I had to position it manually, which is OK because I'm not going to animate it, so it doesn't have to conform. I haven't found a beard yet, but I'm still looking.
