Well I did submit a question at SM support mainly because the same characters behave differently (Ginger and Ginger 2) so it's not altogether the unimesh skinning that is causing this but something about the new figures. Maybe they've been optimized for subdivision whereas the older characters weren't? I'll let you know what SM tells me.
