Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
You add the folder above Runtime - the one that has a name, not the Runtime folder.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
Be careful of adding previous versions of Poser Runtime Libraries. I originally added my P2014 Pro library. When I fired up P11 I got python script errors (even though I had no scripts installed in P11 yet). Here's how I solved that problem.
If you add the Runtime directly and have python scripts you might get errors every time you start P11. I solved this by moving the few items I'd installed in P10 2014 Pro to another external runtime (make sure to keep the python script libraries in their original program install then adding the external library). Let me say that in a better explanation. I had an older runtime of P7 that was laying around without any python scripts (and any content really). I moved the content I wanted to use in P11 from my copy of P10 2014 Pro to the P7 runtime. I think added that runtime to both versions of Poser and had no python script errors.

Thank you for these suggestions. So far, no success. If I go to the Library tab (where currently, there are 2 items: Poser 11 Content and Download) and click the +, browse either to a folder in my documents called Runtime (where I copied all Poser Pro 2014 runtime contents) or to the Runtime folder in the Program Files (x64) for Poser Pro 2014, add: I get a new library folder, but it is "empty" inside. If I create a new folder (name it P2014), copy Runtime (all runtime contents for Poser Pro 2014) into it, add (as above) the P2014, still only get same "empty" result. So, not sure what I am doing wrong. But cannot get it to work.
The library issue seems to be happening to a few people. Not sure why or what causes it. Here's a link to a thread at another forum (hopefully it'll stay up) on how to run the Adobe Air in P11 so at least you can have it running that way. I'm pasting it because the instructions given by karibou are pretty detailed. I also want to give credit where it's due for the temporary fix so customers who are having the problem can use the library.

Nerd3d has been posting a lot over on that other site. You'll have to look there. On the patching there should be a patch coming in a week or two for the new Paul figure, and then a Pauline patch shortly after. I suspect we'll see a technical patch around then or it's possible some fixes will come with one of the updates. From my understanding we should expect two patches in Dec. And maybe a third in January.

I think I've tried that before and got a message that is not a Runtime. But I think now I see what went wrong. Thanks for the reply!
Browse to and select the folder above the runtime. For example, select E:downloads and Poser will look for the runtime within the folder you selected. The folder above the runtime establishes the name of that runtime in your library.

Well I'm a bit confused...as I suspected the first time out it didn't work by hborre's post and not blaming you m'dear. Its me. I'll try the next method for scenes I might want to try using the Superfly renderer...I'll figure it out in time...I usually do.

I add thousands of external runtimes to poser quite regularly all in one hit. I do it with semideu's advanced library manager from rdna. Happy to send screen captures if anyone needs to see how easy this is to do. Love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
I'd look that up at RDNA but due to the merge with Daz whence I once had an account with them it not longer works and didn't migrate...and who knows if Daz is going to feature it. I still have mixed feelings about adding Runtimes..Part of me wants to keep Pro uncluttered and just add figures, etc that I plan to make product for.
Thanks for the answer estherau, btw, I bookmarked you Online Comic, at first glance, it looks great!

Thanks. I just posted a new episode today. after a long hiatus.

Catryna, when you click on the + sign, add libraries icon, poser should open an explorer window (in windows, I assume it does the equivalent on a Mac). Navigate in this to the folder actually called runtime, not the folder that contains the runtime, select this and click on open. Poser should now add the library with the name of the folder containing the runtime folder. Poser only cares about 2 things as far as I'm aware, one is that the folder is called runtime and the other is that it has permission to write to it, so in later versions of windows don't have the runtimes in your programs files, best to have them in the public folders

Looks like the new Poser Pro 11 doesn't allow adding previous runtimes by Add Library +. In previous versions, I could use Add + to browse to the previous runtime folders, add them, and they would simply appear. New Poser Pro 11 doesn't do this (if I navigate to a runtime, it gets added as "empty".
Is there a easy way to add previous runtimes? When I've searched for info, looks like maybe the only way is to sort out content in old runtimes, into separate categories-people, props, etc., then add each category separately.
Would like to figure out how to do this. Any help appreciated.
