Public Domain ,CopyRights ,Patents are complicated matters of law.
the patents/US20150002517 is dated 2013 dual quaternion rigging math has been around a lot longer. Might be older then the invention of CGI even.
I don't recall what license Antonia is published under, but I recall that you can sell derivative product. One can buy all sorts of public domain books at any bookstore; anything from before 1923 in the US.
The math has been around for over a century, which is why Shane commented about Algebra.....
