Adding a spotlight switches off the "headlamp" that shines from the camera, it sounds as if the spotlight is being blocked by something and so not casting any light or as if your Tone Mapping settings (exposure value) don't match the brightness of the light (which would not be surprising as they are set for outdoor daylight by default) - or both.
