Import the shoes.
Scale and position as desired.
Open grouping tool
Click New Group button, name group rFoot (or RightShoe, doesn't matter at this point).
With this new group selected in the tool dropdown, add all polys of the right shoe (+ button active) by either rectangular marquee selecting all polys or clicking individual polys of the right shoe. Selected polys are solid red. Making marquee selections with the element display style: Wireframe will "draw through" and select polys on opposing sides of the surface (usually). - (minus) tool similarly will remove selected polys from the group. If materials are conveniently assigned (or pre existing groups), those tagged polys may be quickly assigned via Add Material/Add Group to the new group. You'll see some other options such as invert etc. You might want to become familiar with their usage.
Repeat process for left shoe (create new named group, etc.)
Once you have all polys of the object assigned to new right and left groups, select the right group from dropdown. Click create prop. Repeat for left group. Or if there wasn't a pre existing group in the object before you created the Right and Left group (unlikely), simply click Spawn Props.
You now should have a Right Shoe object, a Left Shoe object, and the original whole model in your scene hierarchy.
