It makes sense that DC would look for a dark edge to it's movies. It's audience has grown and aged. When I was a boy, comics were for affordable for kids. Now, I don't know if today's kids could save their shekels to pay for a comic book. So your audience is going to be older and Superfriends are not going to cut it.
