LOL ..i honestly stopped buying and reading both dc and marvel comics a while ago ... the rebooting bs just gets to me after awhile ...also the powers of these characters has gotten so convoluted ... remember the good old days when being able to fly was enough lol .. now if you cant move a planet with your little finger .😀 .... they are essentially gods ... where the hell do you go from there lol

Woo hoo! I actually received an e-bot! I will now proceed to use it to add nothing of value to the primary discussion of the thread. (My apologies! Please don't hit me! Eeek!)

In storytelling terms, the "Where do you go from there?" question is addressed remarkably well by Kurt Busiek's Astro City. The series is amazing. It shows how the superhero genre can be used to tell stories beyond PowerfulMan and HateyHatefulGuy beating up on each other and leveling cities in the process. Good stuff. I also think of John Byrne commenting, at his forum, that "Super heroes are about Hope!" A lot of super hero fiction is just about power. There are deeper themes in the genre which are frequently overlooked or ignored.

Astro City is one of the best comic book series ever. It's for those who do look at the bigger picture and the side issues of living in a city of filled with Heroes and villains. It might just restore your faith in good old comics books.

The rest of the opinions aren't bad. The new 52 is excellent. You do need to get the heroes up with time. Let's face it. Superman was an adult in 1938. That would make him at least 78 years old. Not good. I could go deeper with the differences between Kingdom Come and Superman 1000000 as to how the Superman mythos and canon were affected but we should stay on target.

I think you guys might be right in saying that DC packed a lot into that movie. They dealt with two different origins and that ending which took months in the comic to execute. They could've spaced it out over several movies but movies don't always work that way. Example : Star Wars. 20th century fox was out of cash and put everything into a movie that started in the middle of an epic story. It worked out quite well financially but the story was left with a few plot holes that made little sense. Example : The Jedi can afford to house a ton of jedi kids have this massive tower and headquarters...but wouldn't spring a couple of bucks to free Anakin's Mommy? Or they can make ships that go faster than light but they couldn't save a mother at child birth with NO physical problems?

or the other route...The Lord of the Rings was supposed to a two movie set until one of the financial backers said, "Wasn't the Lord of the Rings a trilogy?" That bit of conscious gave us three FOUR STAR movies in a row. They chose to tell the story (Almost) properly.

That half hour that was cut could've been used to explain more. I mean, who doesn't know the origin of batman?

Oh and far as canon is concerned, Marvel/Sony did the same thing. They change origins as needed. As long as they keep with the spirit of the comic, if not the letter, I'll let some changes go and not mention it to Sweetheart who remains wonderfully unknowing and uncaring about such things.

"Super Heroes are about hope."

They should be.
