I'm having a problem rendering backgrounds and so would appreciate some advice. I'm using Poser Pro 2014, 64-bit.
The stills I wish to render consist of a character, usually close up, on a terrain reaching off to infinity, and with a sky picture in a skydome or a sky picture on a flat background (like a hi-res square enlarged to fit the scene). So the sky is at about -300 on the Z axis. The problem is that when I render my scene at Firefly's highest settings the wireframe mesh always shows up in my sky as faint shadowy lines. (No matter what JPG I use for my sky picture or how high its resolution.) The wireframe always shows from the dome or square OBJ. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem of the wireframe showing on distant objects in renders?... Perhaps some settings in Firefly; or maybe the props I'm using are too old (can you suggest a good skydome/environment?). Thanks much for your help.

Enter the (advanced) material room, select the skydome material, look at the image map node, and click the tiny white triangle in the filtering line. Try setting it to none. texture filtering - Pro2014.png

Please excuse my delay; I've been working on it, mostly in the Material Room. Thanks for the suggestion... I think it's one of the things I haven't tried. But, I just tried it and it didn't do the trick :( Maybe it's the ancient prop I've been using? (It is the skydome from 3DWorlds by HMann.) However, I've had the same problem using a JPEG on the Hi-Res Square primitive.LitWireframe.pngNoFilterSky.png

It's a moot point, but that doesn't actually tell us how far away it is. Minus 300 what?

You might try using the Ambient input* for your background image map instead of the PoserSurface diffuse lighting node. A background (particularly the sky) would not normally be lit by your scene lights - it would be self-lit. I'd hazard a guess that removing the diffuse lighting node would also eliminate those artefacts.

(* or the Alternate_Diffuse, as in seachnasaigh's example).

Edit: don't forget to set Diffuse_Value to zero, or the colour to black.

Another thing: the Specular_Color looks like black, but it might not be quite black. There should be no specular reflections on the background, so I would set the Specular_Value to zero to make sure of that. You can also delete the lower Color_Texture node.

Agree. Those nodes should not be connected anywhere near the Diffuse_Color and Specular_Color. The dome is a prop that should not be influenced by any lighting in the scene, it should contribute it's assets in addition to existing illumination. Also, there appears to be too many lights on the stage. If you hope to render with IDL, one light (Infinte), in addition to the dome, will be adequate for the scene.
