why do you have to hit enter TWICE to get a new line?

For line breaks I use < br> (without the space)
Works great but I sometimes a pain to remember to use.

meanwhile the rest of the world use.... WYSIWYG, unless writing webpages or code. I am doing neither. I'm writng a post on a forum.... I'd expect it to work the same as text editors like Office, OpenOffice etc, where a single return gives a new line.

Can't help you there but until it's changed it is a work around for anyone who wants to use it and because it is what it is, I use it a lot.
Others might too.
