Having just bought my first character package for G3 and noticing that the inj morphs did nothing to her shape or face (this is in daz Studio), I have the feeling I also need to purchase all the facial and body morphs from Daz to make them work. Am I assuming correctly here?
That is correct.
Also keep in mind that a lot of characters are based off a variant of the base mesh (Victoria 7, Michael 7, Aiko 7, etc). Check what is required before you buy - the sculpted figures can have a much higher TCO cost, because you would need that sculpt to go with the base morphs. Most of the sculpts only have 4 - 8 characters made for them, and outside of Victoria and Michael, they don't seem to be supported by character vendors once they flop into the marketplace.
If you are starting out and insisting on using the g3 series of figures in Poser, I'd recommend that you stick with characters that are for either G3F (female) or G3M (male). I highly recommend Tengu23's Dial-a-Girl. over at Daz. It gets you best bang-for-buck. Another recommendation is keep a close eye on Daz's Fast Grab page (70% off) - Everything shows up there eventually - be patient, and you can purchase your content at a reasonable cost.
