Subject: Looking for British Colonial era army helmet

freyfaxi62 ( ) posted Fri, 10 March 2017 at 2:30 PM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 8:47 AM

I've been toying with the idea of doing an 1880's period render of British army, but I'm having trouble locating an appropriate helmet. Does anyone know of a model of such a helmet ? Either Army, or even one of the old British "bobby" (police} helmet ? I'm looking for either a freebie, or even a pay one. Something like what's shown in the picture belowthXQ84V1PF.jpg

look for "pith" or "pith helmet" in free stuff. I think I've downloaded one of those in the past.

I've tried sharecg, and the freebies here, none of my searches has turned up anything correct. What has turned up is totally the incorrect shape :(

Poser world used to do a British bobby for M4, with the traditional helmet, but this never got transferred to the new site when they changed from a subscription site to a store. Perhaps if you contact them they could help

this any good ?

pith_ad.jpg

It's a very quick conversion of the coppa's helmet in my Obot freebie. Sorry it's not that well detailed, tad time-poor right now, so might not be what you need. Bu if you do, please say and I'll turn it into a prop for you.

Ooooo;;that's looking just great ! I'd love to see it as a prop :)

Definitely a case of "too late", but before RunTime DNA closed, Traveler offered an "adventurer's " freebie set of different headgear including an explorer's type pith helmet, an Indiana Jones type fedora and a WWI flying ace cap.

Agree. I was trying to remember where I've seen that trio combination. IIRC, the hats were designed for M3?

Redfern ( ) posted Mon, 13 March 2017 at 1:03 PM

I'm at the office so I can't verify, but I think the pith helmet has "alignment" morphs to fit M3 and V3. But given they are prop files, not conforming clothing figures, one can just position and then "parent" them to the desired figure.

(In case you're wondering, yes, that's Michael 3 sporting a custom face I call "Hammer Horror Hero" I derived from both the D*Z morphs and those of "Brom", Beth Capsces' enhanced .CR2.)

Sincerely,

Bill

A friend of mine was searching for a pith helmet late last year (when RDNA was still accessible) and I pointed him to this handy lil' package.

If you're still looking I found these during a quick search of the site and they seem to have the type of helmet you were asking about...

1.) This set of Steam-punk hats from the Rendo MP has one (paid resource)...

https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/steampunk---hat-set/77237

2.) This was in the Freestuff area here as well (free items)...

... I hope this helps! :)

The old policeman's helmet (mentioned above) was actually from Ness's Period Reproductions freebies, where I seem to remember that commercial use was forbidden. Still online though, via https://web.archive.org/web/20130531064504/http://www.nessrepros.co.uk/downloads/Police_Props.zip

I have a ..PW Mike24th helmet.cr2 which is the right type with the pointed front and the long back, but was presumably from Poser World (I grabbed their one-time "all you can download" offer) and thus is no longer available.
