Subject: Poser Pro 11 from Poser 11

Jcleaver ( ) posted Sun, 07 May 2017 at 12:26 PM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 3:42 PM

I searched the forums, but had a hard time finding any info on whether it is worth upgrading to the pro version, or should I wait until a new version is released. Any help would be appreciated.

It depends on how you use Poser. I upgraded for creating weight-map joints and GPU rendering for Superfly.

If you can grab it when it's on sale I'd say it's a no-brainer.

Thanks for the replies. The previous versions of Poser Ihave used have all been the Pro version, so I am inclined to upgrade. I see I just missed a sale, so it may be a while until the next sale.

I would definitely wait for a sale to upgrade. And the price seems to get cheaper with every sale.

There are numerous advantages to Pro, listed at the Smith Micro site in great detail. Here are what I see as the core advantages...

  • Graphics card render acceleration (but needs a very fast NVIDIA CUDA-powered card).
  • Collada and FBX import/export.
  • Use HDRi to light your scenes.
  • 'Render in background', and much improved 64-bit rendering.
  • Save renders as .PSD Photoshop files, with multipass render passes as layers inside the file.
  • Network rendering with the render Queue Manager.
  • PoserFusion plugins (render your scene in Lightwave, 3DS Max, Maya and Cinema 4D). (Though Vue is the best option there, because it knows how to handle the Poser materials).
  • A more cost-effective upgrade path to Poser 12.
