Not to rain on anyone's warm fuzzies, but NO ...
... The company that did the VFX for the first STAR WARS movie (1977) was John Dykstra's company, ILM (Industrial Light & Magic), which was in Van Nuys, CA on Valjean next to the VN airport.
The company you know today was originally formed in San Rafael on Kerner Ave for EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and later appropriated the ILM name. That wasn't quite 40 years ago -- close but not quite.
I should know. I worked on some of the Optical FX Composites for the first STAR WARS at Ray Mercer & Co.
