Okay, this is a re-do of the striped crepe. It's sort of based on the same settings, but then I tweaked everything so much it's really all completely new. I'm happy to say that this version much more closely resembles the physical fabric I was trying to imitate. :)

The color function remained the same, one of the horizontal "layer" ones. For the filter, I chose one of the zig-zag presets, then modified it so the zigs and zags wouldn't be identially spaced (adds a bit more variety to the color pattern.)

Hope this image makes sense okay. To the left is the Bump tab, to the right is the bump production detail screen. If you can make it out alright, you can see I used the Fabric function with a scale of .1/0/.5. I left the main bump scale alone, just in case I added more functions...but the one ended up being enough. Used one of the strange round filters to put a lot of variation to the bump pattern, didn't want it to be too precise. Then, there's a very low gain of .01. I think it would look just a bit better with less, but I also wanted to make sure it would show up for the example image.

Ok, this looks REAL good... this looks like fabric.. This really rocks... I'm sure that this is serious work for you, you're working at this like a scientist, having your lab assistant veryfying your findings... No fun involved in this at all... :)

For Highlights, I used somewhere in the 60's for the brightneww, but took it way down to the 'teens of dullness. This one is not a shiny material. In accordance with that, in Effects, I brought the Contrast way down toward the "soft" end. Finally, I retained the rotation (X = 45 degrees) so it wouldn't sit too straight on the model.

Hey guys, I am having lots of fun with these fabrics, yeppers! I do take it seriously, though...that's why you're getting copious notes on what I've done, so that all experiments can be repeated in your home, too. ;) I'm going to try to get an image of the inspiration fabric for this one...

Here's a quickie shot of the actual fabric in real life. I had to dig this out from a stored-away cardboard box -- meaning I wasn't looking at the cloth as I created the material, but doing it from memory. And I think hey, not bad, eh? :D

Oh Varian, you're such an inspiration! Been rather pressed workwise the last few days but have spent all free time diddling with the fabric function and I have to say you're onto something there. You know how it is when you start tweaking stuff - kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Here's one of many. Don't think it really is plaid=y enough but hope I'm on the right track! Now I'll have to go back and try some more. :) Sharen, the draped cloth is a mesh by Palmix, available in the Poser free stuff. You know, about that cloth prop, I KNOW I downloaded it sometime in the past, but I can't find it in my admittedly voluminous hoard, at least not yet anyway. I hope it is still in freestuff, but looking through there I don't find it. Varian, the credit goes to you, fella. I had NOT thought of that before seeing your postings, but this kind of stuff is what I like to do, that is tweaking over and over. Kind of takes the place of actual smarts is what my better half calls it. And, I was hoping I could come up with something LACE-Y, but not yet.

It's still there. I just did a search in Poser free stuff on "Palmix" and it came right up. Glad you've been inspired, Larry! We've got a couple more weeks on the calendar to see what other kinds of fabric we can create in Vue. I'll bet there's a way to make one like lace...not sure what way that'd be, but the fun is in the trying! :D

heyas; ooh! this one is mine! it looks so soft and fuzzy and cuddly. kinda like a beach towel. (yeah, soft and fuzzy and cuddly describes me to a T, dont it? well, since i've become possessed by hatchies....)

hehe...yup, "soft and fuzzy", adjectives that readily come to mind when thinking of Bloodsong. ;)
