My instructor in my color theory class in college said something that stuck with me for years. Color is dependent on the color, angle and type of light being used to illuminate the object. Certain shades of red will look purplish in florescent light as a key example. Go by what you have learned about the material elsewhere and you will most likely come across the shade you were looking for.
