Pi times radius squared times length, so 3.14 x 5x5 x 24 = 1,885 cubic feet = 14,100 US gallons.

Seachnasaigh ,Thanks a lot for the "Pi times radius squared times length" those math formula 's are to good at eluding me.

I was just going to make the sign read " 14,093 Gallons " we wouldn't put the U.S. part.

Now I'm wondering about how the world rights sign n with what measurement systems.

You know the US, British, Russians, Japanize ,and all .architects had a lot of fun making space station.

Guess I could right 14,093.3 U.S. gallons but don't look right to us. Don't know if you all right 11,735.13 Imp gallons or 11,735.13 gallons.

Could right 53348.94 Liters.

As long as a mug of beer is a mug beer ,Where good ;)

The ISS was easy.

They stuck to Metric... It's easier ;)

Btw I actually have an app on my phone for working out tank volumes for work..

raven ( ) posted Wed, 13 September 2017 at 3:53 AM

Make it 25 feet long and on the sign put approx 15000 gallons. Actual capacity would be 14676.82 gallons US. To be honest most things in the Poser world tend to be US-centric so don't bother stating US or IMP.

Khai-J-Bach , My grandkids keep stealing the smart phones ,good thing the rotary phone scares them ;)

Raven ,I google Europe n Japan hazmat signs n got Japans road signs. I'm sticking to U.S. stuff before I end up with a Japanize tat that reads I'm a dumb ass. No need to make that public knowledge ;)

Here are some hazmat placards

more hazmat signage

and yet more

The volume comes out to 14,100.49... gallons, so 14,100 to the nearest gallon. You're not supposed to round off until calculations are completed, and in any case with a tank of that size, they are rated in discrete quanta, so it would be rounded down to a 100 gallon increment.

In the US we don't write "U.S." with gallons - at least I couldn't find any that do. I guess you're supposed to be aware of where you are and what units are used.

BB is right. I wasn't specifying that you should indicate the standard used, just a bit of info, if you intended the model to be used in a Brit environment. Although now, we use litres but you'll find gallons on old stuff here and there.

Good God we have to many hazmat signs .Think we have made more then enough bad stuff. Now we know where the zobies came from ;) but about only one's I see are the ones on the trucks .90% of those don't think I've ever seen.

Since CGI environment is world wide I'd like to keep the world involved but if they can't relate to the signs ,they won't accept the signs. I like StarTrek but hate the star date system that make no since to me.10 miles away tells me something. 10 kilometers away tells me nothing.

So I could put 14,100 U.S. gallons 11,700 Imp gallons 53,400 Liters but that's not the norm

All of BB signs are 20,000 ,10,000 ,500 ,200.but there nothing like 14,100 .

or 15,000 U.S. gallons 12,000 Imp gallons 50,000 Liters but the maths wrong.can't have bad math.

or I could just put hazmat signs and not put a gallon sign. but I really want a gallon sign.

So needless to say where not going to have normal signs but there be meaningful and understandable

If you're releasing this into the wild, have 2 sign textures, one for US and one for imperial amounts or have a 3rd and include liters. Label the mat files as to if they are US or imp. But make the signs authentic. If this is for an image you're making and you want clarification, add a caption starting which measurement system was used.

It's more of a scifiish slightly altered reality. I'm not trying to copy something out of the real world. that's what cameras are for ;)

There's no way I could make authentic Europe ,Russia ,China ,Japan anyways.

I just want it to make since n look cool :)

I don't understand why you're concerned about the rounding. We can't even be sure what a Poser inch is.

In any case you've already been rounding - based on your stated dimensions the actual capacity is not 14,100.

It is 14081.0994

your signs was even 20,000 to 500. no14081.0994 or even a 14,100 so thay don't match the set but I think 15,000 would go with the set

I am pretty sure that is because the engineers were told to make a 20,000 gallon tank, a 10,000 gallon tank, a 500 gallon tank, etc. In other words, the dimensions did not decide the capacity -- the capacity decided the dimensions.

Yes Sir I agree 100% the capacity decided the dimensions for your tanks.

My tanks n pipes and all are made for a interchangeable kit with rounded #'s. You can + or - 8 feet sections of my tank in the .jpg

Since we can't have rounded dimensions and capacity's. I'm thinking it's best we keep the rounded dimensions. especially across different app's. and extremely different size work spaces. Poser has a microscopic work space. In C4D a eye is 100x100x100 meters.Like Poser zBrush is not big on measurements and I scale C4D meshes larger in Z. So in Z a eye is 500 to 20,000 meters or something in the work space ,I have no idea.

But no matter what workspace or scales I'm in I have a tell.in my tank .jpg Vicky is telling us what 6 feet tall is.

^-- I used to use sites like this all the time when calculating various tank volume needs. There are plenty of these sites out there, so start bookmarking. :)

The go-to people for labeling, most of the time: https://www.labelmaster.com/

Be advised, while the information on a label that qualifies for CFR labeling requirements is NOT able to be trademarked/copyrighted (including some required dimensions/general shapes), some designs can be. In any case, product photos should never, ever, be used directly by artists, but only as guidelines for their own work. (IIRC, Official CFR/OSHA/UN examples can be freely duplicated/copied/used. But, I haven't checked, so do your own checking. :) )

And, have fun with this: https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CFR-2012-title49-vol2/pdf/CFR-2012-title49-vol2.pdf (GIGANTIC PDF) Everything you wanted to know about hazmat labeling for transport.

OSHA won't be left out of the sign business: https://www.osha.gov/dsg/hazcom/ (Site down at the time of this writing, I'm sure our government is hard at work restoring it...)

All of the above is US law. If you want U.N. regulations for guidance, then that can be done, it's just weirder...
