I definately remember having desks like this! You couldn't raise the top but stored all your stuff underneath - usually the underside of the desktop was heaped with old wads of gum...yuck! They certainly were great desks and you could often pick them up at flea markets or yard sales but don't see any today....and yep, the inkwell was on the right. Being left-handed, this made for an extra effort on my part :) Thanks for the memories! :) Irene
