... PUT FRICKEN WIG POSE INFORMATION IN CHARACTER POSE FILES! This is one of my biggest pet peeves with buying a pose set or getting pose sets off freestuff. I'm about ready to pull my own hair out! I can easily spend tons of time getting a wig exact on a character's head only to have all my work go down the toilet when I click on a bought or downloaded pose and have my wigs pop around or rotate. I want the pose the author promised and not my wigs moved all over. One pose I used popped my character's wig nearly 10 units on the yaxis above her head and squished it down to 1% on the xscale. Had a bear of a time even finding the damn thing till I turned the camera to the side. Yes, I know about the lock actor option and I use it a lot (almost forced to now a days) but there are times I want to pose the hair myself with an MT or something. Its a pain to lock the wigs, pose the figure then unlock the wigs, IF you can remember to do any of that to start with. Worse yet is always double checking a wig to see if its locked before I use a third party pose. I'm asking, begging, pleading pose makers to PLEASE DON'T include the wig's info in their poses that they give away or sell. I can some what understand poses in freestuff. That's free and I can't look a gift horse in the mouth but a purchased pose set should NEVER EVER EVER offset a wig, period unless that's its sole intent. Also, if you are selling or giving away a pose only set (meaning a set with just pose info and not MT info or scale info) PLEASE make sure you do NOT include MT settings. That's also a pain seeing body parts grow and shrink and characters not fitting into clothes after working for hours trying to get some garment to fit. Thanks for hearing my rant.

One that got me recently was Vicky. I spent half a day morphing her face, getting it just the way I wanted it then clicked on a pose... not a face, a pose. Her face screwed up into some sort of half smirk. Totaly changed it. Ruined everything. Needless to say, I use poses sparingly these days.

With quite a few hair models out there, once you bring from library and it's fitted to Posette in default. Double click the item and reparent to the head and click the button about inherit bends of parent. This usually, but not always fixes fly away hair peices. Liz Pope Dreamspinner Inc.

Actually if you just hit the pose button to save your pose before you try one from freestuff you will keep your hair on your head and hers....lol I hear what you're saying, it's happened to me and it makes you want to just throw it all away, so much work gone in the time it takes to load the new pose. Well, you could open the poses in a text editor and remove the morph information :-) It's not very difficult :-)

Certainly, we can fix a pose that is poorly done. I think the point that Mason is making, is that anyone providing pose files, should be professional about it. Before the poses are offered, the maker should understand what they are doing. Poses should be done using figures, not only without hair, but the figure itself should be stripped of ALL morphs, but joint fixes. Facial expressions should be provided using face poses. Character poses should be just that. There is no need to include those channels in a body pose. Back when none of us knew that we were doing, there was an excuse. Now, including unwanted or unnecessary channel data in a pose file, means that the provider has exceeded their level of competence.

why not apply the pose before you add the hair? wouldn't that stop the fly away hair problem?

There is an easier solution to this problem which haunts even me. Set the hair of the model the way that you want it to be before applying the pose, select the hair piece, now click on EDIT in poser and select MEMORIZE > ELEMENT. This way if you select a pose that causes the hair to drop at her feet (I really hate that), click on the hair again, then EDIT, then click RESTORE > ELEMENT and the hair pops back into place the way that you had it. Saves me a crapload of time :o) Jack

The hair is much easier to add while the figure is in the default position without haveing to angle the way and that and align it on the head. Some hair snaps right into place but some doesn't and that is a problem.Plus I like to have my character fully done before any posing starts.

Jaager, Yes, also I hate it when people either give away, (which I really can't complain about), or sell, (which I CAN complain about), models that have references to textures that don't exist. So frustrating the first time you load it. I know I can remove them from the cr2, but if you buy it it should already be tested and taken care of. Marque

I have a simple and unique it seems answer to this problem. I don't use poses, don't download poses, or buy poses, or even save my own. Every render I do has it's own custom built pose for the specific scene. I know some people believe using poses is a great time saver, and helpful, but hey my runtime library is alot slimmer with no excess poses in it, and I feel the repeat practice of posing every scene, and then lighting it for best performance has given my finished renders a better look to them. After all they do call it Poser LOL not Loading Premade Poses.

Another thought, I am not absolving poorly done work, but to use an untested pose in a scene where it really matters, is to show trust where experience proves it is not appropriate. Perhaps every user should have a joint channel only figure. Apply every pose to it and save this back to the Library. If the library graphic has some value, the pose can be saved with a slightly different name and Explorer used to delete the unwanted pose and rsr and change the name of the new pose to match the wanted rsr. It is a matter of CYA.

Ok, I know how to save a pose with out the hair information by simply saving the pose from a bald character. But how do you keep facial expressions out when saving a pose? Maybe a special pose to set everything on the face to default before saving the pose?

If there are no face morphs on the figure that you do the pose with, these channels will not be adressed when the pose is saved, even if the 'include morph channels' option is selected on save.

Here, here. Bravo, Mason. ;] And please, NO morph info, face info or etc saved in poses, ok? I can set my own expressions, but it's horrid spending an hour designing an expression and a morph set only to have a pose set it back to default posette or vicki.

For editing morphs out of file, you can use MorphManager by Mr X. You have the option to zero all morphs or to delete all morphs.

A morph set to zero, is saved as zero and will change the morph on a recipient to zero. The only sure way is for it not to be there at all. With V2 and the joint fix morphs, it is useful to have these included with the pose. The only safe way to do this, is if they are the only morphs in the figure the pose is saved from. The other way is to text edit the key data out. Not a reasonable option if there are very many morphs to repair- very very tedious to do.

It might be possible to fix errant poses by re-saving them (less morphs of course) once re-posed. As for missing texture files, it's really Ladin-like to send one without the bum file called for.

at Happyworldland there's a little utility called Stripper that'll take all face and--optionally--eye and neck morph information from a pose file. Perhaps this can be extended to include other parts of the body? Dunno who wrote it.

I've taken to "detox" ing all my poses in CR2Editor before I use them. I'd already taken the face poses out and saved them in the Faces section, but I still had problems with non-essential commands--the altHip Geom, for example--making a mess of MAP and MOR pz2's already applied. So, now I just run them through the Editor and pick out all the command channels that don't directly describe the pose. Once I got the hang of it, I wondered why everybody offering poses for sale hadn't spent a little more time and done so already. Jaager's comment about exceeding competence is well-put, but Poser, by its very nature, sort of encourages that "reach exceeding grasp" thing. Too bad the Poser manual isn't more explanatory about--oh, so many things. Thank the powers that be for the wonderful folk on the forums or I wouldn't know my pz2 from my TwistX, SmooY elbow. eng
