Like many others I recently took advantage of the great pricing to upgrade from Poser Pro 2012 to Poser Pro 11.1. This being my first experience with it, I read through the documentation for the SM Download Manager: "Using the Smith Micro Download Manager" prior to installing it (yes, I'm that guy). In that documentation, where installation of the downloaded components is described, it states "If a previous installation is detected, you will be prompted to uninstall it before setup completes (recommended)." Long story short, I never received any such prompt, the installation proceeded without incident and 11.1 seems to be working correctly. I thought perhaps Poser Pro 2012 might have been uninstalled silently, but the desktop icon was still there, and clicking on it still opens that application without issue. So, I now have both versions installed.

So, here are my questions: a) Is this behaviour what others upgrading have experienced? b) Are there known issues that are associated with having both versions installed like this?

I'm not certain that I can think of any good reason why I might want both installed, and freeing up some disk space is always nice, but I am interested in any thoughts others might have on the issue.

Personally, I'd keep both, at least until I was comfortable with Poser 11.

Ah! Now it makes sense. Since I had Poser Pro 2012, which did not use the Download Manager, there was no previous version, so no prompt. Thank you Andy! I believe that I will just leave things be for now, although, as I said, I'm not certain I will really have a need for both. Thanks again.

It meant that if a previous version of Poser 11 Pro (for example, an earlier SR version) is detected, that will be uninstalled and the new install take place. It doesn't mean a prior version like Poser Pro 2012. Poser is good in that it lets you keep earlier versions on your system.

It's worth keeping both versions on your system if you have the space in case some Python scripts you liked to use no longer work with later versions of Poser.

I've had both Poser 11 and Poser Pro 2014 installed on the same computer and never had a problem with them. Poser 11.1 is my problem. The two versions did share the same runtime folders which are on a separate partition, but that was never an issue. I've never had both Poser 11 and Poser 11 Pro on the same computer (I have both versions) so I don't know if one would uninstall the other. It probably would. Earlier versions don't seem to be a problem.
