When posing a figure, you should pay attention to how the body actually bends. Predominantly, there should be a major combination of extremity twisting and bend, not just bend alone. I've illustrated this with renders of Weight Map V4. Clearly, you can see that pose distortion has been minimized by twisting collar, shoulder, and forearm to allow her to touch her ear.

Moving the camera to side view, you will see that her arm is actually bent forward which is a very natural pose allowed by real-life anatomical joint construction.

Trying to force the joints into unconventional, or unrealistic, poses will distort the mesh and make the pose appear awkward.
