Subject: Random Problem Installing ZIP Files Into Poser 11.1 Pro

Nod ( ) posted Fri, 08 June 2018 at 7:57 PM · edited Thu, 27 February 2025 at 5:53 AM

I've been having a weird problem with Poser 11.1 Pro. When installing a file, the item in question isn't showing up in the Poser directory. This applies to installing the ZIP via the built in extractor, or doing it the old fashioned way and installing straight to the Runtime folder from the ZIP itself. If I use explorer, I can see the files happily sitting there in the appropriate folders, so it's not like they're in the wrong directory. It's just that Poser can't see them, not even with a search.

The weird part is that if I install them into Poser 9 using the exact same method, they'll show up in the Poser 9 Runtime which I have set up in Poser 11.

I've installed 100s of Zips and this has only happened with Poser 11. Any ideas?

IF you have Poser 11 open at the time you install the new files May or may not show up when you force a refresh on that folder.... Otherwise, I'm clueless.

At the bottom right corner of your library window you will see a circular arrow. Whenever you install a new item zip or otherwise you need to hit that symbol. It will refresh the whole library.

As I've said before, I've installed 100s of Zips into Poser 11. I always do it the same way, it's just that sometimes the files can't be seen no matter how many times it's refreshed. It's like a random bug.

I didn't upgrade to 11.1, and this sounds like one more reason why I never will.

For myself anyway ... I've found that when it doesn't show up it's because the zip file isn't nested properly ... and is in a "content" folder as per DAZ structure. I have to go in and move the runtime to the proper place. And I have PP11.1 with no issues.

It doesn't necessarily apply to just 'content' folder. There are individuals who nest a runtime folder within a description title folder that can throw the whole hierarchy into disarray. That requires manually inspecting compressed files for protocol integrity before installation. Where DAZ3D content is concerned, I use their Install Manager to install content to wherever runtime I want. The application systematically installs the files found within a Content folder, subsequently ignoring the Content folder altogether. Then again, DAZ based content files need to be nested within a Content folder, otherwise no installation.

This is exactly why I manually install . . . folder by folder. Most folks I know think it's a big waste of time, but I never have a problem finding anything, because it's all where I want/need it to be.

I always check the hierarchy of the zip when I download ... adjust it if necessary ... then I can install anyway I want. That is just my workflow. I find it easier.

I've used 7-Zip for quite some time but I assume WinZip etc work the same. You can actually open the folder structure in 7-zip to get to the runtime folder. When you extract it only extracts the path from that point down. It also keeps a list of recent destination folders so you can quickly jump to selected external runtimes
