Subject: bump and bump map node should be where

I'm relatively new to Blender myself. But here is how I set it up using Cycles and the Principled BSDF shader. The bump image isn't linked directly to the Principled shader, so you should be able to use it with other shaders. Basically I have the bump image texture, with it set to Non-Color Data, going into the Math Node, set to "Multiply" to adjust the amount, and then into the Displacement link of the Material Output Node.
