I'm pretty much obsessed with Manuel Bastioni Lab (MBL) right now. Seriously... I need a 12 step program because I'm ignoring my work and family, lol. MBL is essentially what Poser 1 might have been had it been created in 2016: It creates figures only and you'll have to roll your own content. Plus it uses PBR textures, It has an advanced IK system, you can create male, female, anime and fantasy figures with a wide variety of ethnicities, comes with a ton of morphs and expressions, plus a handful of poses. If you want hair and clothes you have to make them yourself as there is no marketplace... yet.
I've been working on quicksuits for clothing by resizing Joe Quick's Quicksuits from Share CG. MBL uses a proxy system to fit clothing. It's essentially conforming clothing but the mesh attaches to the figure's armature rather than creating a new one in the clothing. It also uses a muscle system rather than JCMs to deal with deformations when posing. All the bones, muscles, scaling and weight maps are used to conform the proxy to your customized figure. It's a one click process once a mesh is sized to a base figure, sweet!
This one is wearing a lo rez quicksuit. I like that it avoids the "boob socks" which is why it's tested on a full figured lady. The clothes are a single mesh with transparency and mat zones added. I learned a lot about creating Cycles materials on this render.
The lab is raw. It packs an amazing amount of functionality inside a single plug in and it can be rough around the edges. It's created by a single developer though, and he's improving it at an amazing pace. There's so much potential in this add on it blows my mind.
Can you tell that i like this add on?
