Blender F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 24 8:44 pm)
What is the text in the CLI? Might have some clues, there.

What graphics card are you using? I've heard of this happening because of graphics card issues with the new OpenGL standards Blender uses in 2.8. You can try starting it with --debug-gpu command flag and see if that will launch it. In the meantime, make sure your graphics card drivers are updated to support at least OGL 3.3, which is the minimum requirement for Blender 2.8. Aside from some debug trickery on startup, I have not seen an actual fix for this issue, which some people seem to be experiencing, outside of simply waiting for the full release and all the bug fixes.

According to Speccy, I have 4.1 for OpenGL, but I can't find how to confirm it in windows or with Nvidia's software. I know it's an old card. I may have to wait until I can update.

I'm not a fan of Beta versions of software, and my OGL is only 3.1, so I think I'll wait as I'm in the market for a new laptop anyway.

Blender 2.8 beta is out now. I thought I'd try it to see what's what. I downloaded the zip file and unzipped it. I double clicked on blender.exe. I get a window with text, like older versions and a gray window pops up like older versions but instead of loading, it closes. Is there something else I need to do to run this?
Oh, in case it matters I'm on win 10 64 bit and downloaded the 64 bit win version.
