I haven't tried 2.8 as yet, and for someone who's been using Blender since the old 2.4x versions, I happen to like the keyboard shortcuts, mostly because any time I have to remove my hand from the keyboard to use the mouse, is a waste of time. Then again, I've been typing at a speed of over 100wpm for decades, so I guess I'm conditioned to do as much of my work as possible using the keyboard.
That said, I had read quite a while ago, that one or more of the Maya developers were consulting on the development of Blender 2.8, so I'm not surprised they've influenced how the new UI works. I've been playing with the Educational Version of Maya for a couple of years after taking a class, and I like the Maya UI, but that's probably because it's "new" software to me, so I didn't have to "change" the way I used it because I had been using a number of older versions that I had become very used to. Changing from the old Blender 2.4x version when the first 2.5x version came out was quite a shock, but it was a change for the better, so I plugged along and learned to love it.
I personally won't be abandoning 2.79b, but I'm definitely looking forward to playing with EEVEE for sure.
