You are fully right, the wind is not good at all in VWD. I want to improve it as soon as possible.

The random part is just a modification of the strength of the wind on each vertices. This has the tendency to generate a vibration and not a real wind effect.

I want to rewrite this part to include random values on the strength and on the direction of the wind. These parameters will have an amplitude and will be modified with a random timer to be able to simulate gusts.

This will generate a more realistic wind effect.
