Never had a problem with TIF images from other vendors but I always use PNG. I have noticed something strange with JPG now and again, though; sometimes, a texture map will load - and render - at half the value it's supposed to be, even if the texture strength is at 100%. The only way to cure it - that works for me - is to load it into Photoshop and save it under another name. Same file and everything but once resaved, it renders just fine and dandy. I've had it happen with some of my own (old pre PNG) , some of Blackhearted's and several others.
As an aside, I am getting very hacked off with materials that still do stuff the Poser 4 way, and most particularly those that are in the Pose folder. I get so angry I could rip a sheet of paper in two. Yeah, I'm dangerous, me.
