Think the main thing is to pick the render engine you have the most fun with or failing that the one least likely to drive you insane (too late for me, already a few buckets short of a full render). If you decide to pickup Superfly again I'd recommend trying HDR lighting, it may not be the style you want but its worth checking out - if after the holidays you interested in doing this send me a PM.
