Wonderful new toy to play with. Thanks, However, what's up with the texture preview for the figure? The texture looks fine when rendered, but in the preview mode, the mapping looks totally off. Any explanation why?

bwldrd ( ) posted Fri, 28 December 2018 at 2:23 AM · edited Fri, 28 December 2018 at 2:27 AM

@hborre The image texture V scaling is set to -1 because the actual textures are flipped. Poser is showing the texture in preview as it actually is, it's rendered flipped due to being scaled -1 (Vertically flipped).

I was wondering about this also, so took a look at the textures, and the UV's in hexagon. (The UV is all over the place)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Consider me insane if you wish, but is your reality any better?

hborre ( ) posted Fri, 28 December 2018 at 9:29 AM

@bwldrd Thank you for looking further into that. I did notice the -1 value on the V scaling; will need to go back and change that. I was also considering taking a look at the UV's in another program but you save the trouble and time. Thanks again.

" The texture looks fine when rendered, but in the preview mode, the mapping looks totally off. Any explanation why?" What Poser version are you using? I tester her in Poser 11 Pro and Poser Pro 2014 and this didn't happen, though I have only got Macs right now. My beta testers (TrekkieGrrrl and Juniper Chew/Infinity1) both use Windows and didn't report this issue, so I haven't seen it.

Whatever3D ( ) posted Mon, 31 December 2018 at 12:42 AM

By the way, the reason the textures are inverted is because I generated Normal Maps in ZBrush which lives in an upside-down world and didn't trust just flipping the texture manually. Since then, I have Substance Painter and future textures won't be strange like this.

If anyone texturing needs a Substance Painter ready version that does not use UDIM tiling and has all the skin as one material, let me know. I'll put it up. It's a bit of a pain because you have to make textures in 8K and then chop them in quarters because I tiled the tiles (SP doesn't do UDIM sensibly). I also have a no-UDIM version with the maps just overlapping.

Whatever3D ( ) posted Mon, 31 December 2018 at 12:44 AM

"(The UV is all over the place)" -- yes, literally. As in outside of the "0-1/0-1" 1001 UDIM space.

She uses UDIM tiling rather than the normal "materials just flopped on top of other materials" so that I could use ZBrush to paint across seams.

"...and Acrobat", said the strange little bald man, as a a glowing green quarterstaff appeared in Diana's hands. Instantly, she knew how to use it together with the gymnastics she trained for in high school. She launched into an attack side by side with Hank on the huge, many-headed dragon immediately.

@Whatever3D You have the option to flip the texture in zbrush on export.

@Whatever3D You have the option to flip the texture in zbrush on export.

I've had trouble with it leaving seams on normal maps when I do that in MultiMap Exporter. Anyway going forward it won't be an issue, as I'll just make future normals in SP.

Whatever3D ( ) posted Mon, 31 December 2018 at 3:54 PM

What preview renderer?

hborre ( ) posted Mon, 31 December 2018 at 7:38 PM

Superfly.

Whatever3D ( ) posted Tue, 01 January 2019 at 12:24 AM

No, sorry, the preview renderer, not the renderer renderer. I'm trying to figure out what is causing the preview to display wrong. There should be a tab that says "Preview" after Superfly, Firefly and Sketch. There should be options for SreeD or OpenGL preview.

This FREE, if admittedly impractical costume is that of the woman from the original cover of the 1st Edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Master's Guide, complete with dagger. (The lady clutched in the efreeti's hand.) The skirt is poseable but can easily be converted to dynamic (as TrekkieGrrrl has demonstrated).

Considering the design, it would also make a decent (though perhaps too decent) outfit for Dejah Thoris, Thuvia, or some other Barsoomian lady.

Hair not included.
