I'm not sure what sort of fabric this might be, but it looks expensive - lol! ;)

Varien, these are so good, I can't belive how good they are.

You need to check out what bloodsong is up to in the other thread...that really awesome blue fabric...makes this one look really cheesy. No offense, varian, but you could stand to learn something about fabric materials by watching bloodsong. ;) Reall cool, actually. :)

Thanks all, and LOL Mike! I could never hope to be as good as Bloodsong, that is true. :::sniffle::: ;)

blue fabric?? no, i got the stripey soft fuzzy one! and all my coolest materials are the ones i've downloaded from varians site! (well, except the whole mountain, and the complex ground cover, and my new cobblestones...) i dunno, this one looks like a painters drop cloth that got soaked in some thick paint or plaster or something.

Varian ( ) posted Mon, 15 October 2001 at 4:02 PM

LOL, so it's either very expensive or very cheap...! :D

MikeJ ( ) posted Mon, 15 October 2001 at 6:48 PM

I hate to say it, but I figured out what I think it looks like: Ever seen one of those scanning electron microscope photos? I don't know, but the texture looks like something I once saw in a photo as such, of some dust, or algae or something. And I mean that in the nicest way. :) ...... Bloodsong, you reminded me... I can't get your "complex ground cover" material to save without crashing Vue. shrug Just like it happened to me with hein's clouds. double shrug

bloodsong ( ) posted Tue, 16 October 2001 at 6:42 AM

eeuw. hey, remember when hein sent me those clouds saved as vobs, cuz i couldnt get them to save? vue tells me 'the vob cloud thing whatever blah blah cant be read, please get rid of it' whenever i try to open that object library :/ something weird is going on, there.

MikeJ ( ) posted Tue, 16 October 2001 at 3:44 PM

Same thing happened to me, exactly, with both the clouds and your complex ground cover.

MikeJ ( ) posted Tue, 16 October 2001 at 3:46 PM

Oh, also, I can't save any of the volumetric smoke and dust materials I make, either. It's not that Vue won't let me...Vue crashes when I try-- EVERY time. Fortunately, I've redone the one I like so many times, I could do it in my sleep, by now....

bloodsong ( ) posted Tue, 16 October 2001 at 6:34 PM

heyas; wait, it crashes when you try to save the material, or a scene with the material in it?? or an object with the material on it. it's already a material so if it loads, you should be okay... unless the scene won't save. ugh.

MikeJ ( ) posted Tue, 16 October 2001 at 8:35 PM

It'll save the scene fine, just not the material individually. One of those things I've learned to live with.... That's for the complex ground cover. But the volume smoke/dust stuff can actually be saved, I remembered. What I meant was, I made some clouds I was happy with, and when I tried to save them as .VOB's, with the material applied, that's when I get the crash. I have saved the clouds without the material, just fine, too. Weird. :/

bloodsong ( ) posted Wed, 17 October 2001 at 7:45 AM

ummm.... since its a mat file already, why are you trying to re-save it? are you editing it? :) hmmm... so save the cloud vobs with not mat, and the cloud mat, then just put them together in the scene? lets send e-on hein's cloud vob. (HE got it to be a vob, at least!)

MikeJ ( ) posted Wed, 17 October 2001 at 4:16 PM

Well, that's the thing. I just import the VOB into the scene then apply the material to one of the clouds, then all I do is to up the density and the quality boost, and then apply it to the rest, so it's not a big deal. But, you know, I should be able to save it. ;) Yeah, I was thinking maybe E-on ought to see hein's clouds one of these days. To hell with the Wishlist. What we need is a Bitchlist....
