Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 13 7:48 am)
Ok, what's happened is you haven't moved the body, just the hip and those parts connected to it (which happen to be all the parts) so the direct manipulation tool stays located at the body location (although no parts of the body are still there). This will not only be seen with the direct manipulation tool but for instance if you try to y rotate the figure it will rotate about this old location of the body.
I don't do animations, but generally minimise this effect by only translating the hip by small amounts to cause subtle changes in the pose, and translating the whole body when I want to move the figure elsewhere in a scene. Hope this makes sense.
There is a difference between the Body and the Hip. Body is everything and Hip is everything below the Body level. The Reason for this is that everything is relative to the part above it. The Body sets the location of everything in the 3D world and the Hip starts at 0,0,0 relative to the Body. Now if you make an animation (think of a walk cycle, that follows a path and not one that stays put) you like the animation, however it is going the wrong way. With the Body you can rotate it about the Y axis or translate the X,Z position to place the cycle where you want it to be and it will walk in the new direction with no issues. This is because the movements are relative to the parent object. In the walk above the figure moves 10 units forward on the Z+ axis, relative to the Body's location. Now if you were to turn the Body 180 about the Y axis the figure would face the Z- direction and if you did not have a relative movement the figure would appear to be walking backwards. But it does not since it will move 10 units forward from its parent, which happens to be facing in the Z- direction.
So in animations you should just use the Body to set the starting point of the Figure and use the Hip to move it around as you want.

The reason why you might want to move the Body position is if you make movement where your figure does a jump block at the net and you want to re-use that again at a slightly different location on the front line/net. If that is the case then using cut shots (changing the focus of the camera) will allow you to move the body of the figure (without it being seen). The way to do a cut shot (assuming you have to do it all in one take), is to use constant spline on the camera that will be used to record. Constant Spline ensures the camera does not drift.
Otherwise using IK you move the Feet to where they need to be and Use the Hip to move the rest of the Body parts. The nice thing is that you plant the Feet dip the Hip a bit then rise it up and it looks like a proper jump as the toes point downward as in real life. Done in small increments you can move the Foot to the proper landing location (after moving the Hip back to Normal location) and when the Jump is playback you can see the foot start to move towards the new landing spot during the jump.
Maybe posting what your issue is can help us give better advice.

Hello, I'm relatively new with Poser. I'm trying to make a volleyball animaiton. I used inverse kinematics to make sure my figure's feet do not go through the floor when running. (I know there is a walk creator tool but my figures mostly jump and stand more than run) So when I used the direct manipulation tool to move the feet and hip forward, I noticed the direct manipulation for the full body does not follow my figure, thus it looks off and messes up my animation. Here's a picture on what I mean:
Is this a bug? I can't seem to fix it. My poser version is Poser 11.1 on an OS 10.13.6 Mac if it helps. Any help would be appercagted, thanks!
