Subject: Trouble with Mike's Winter Jacket from Freestuff

Gawain ( ) posted Wed, 17 October 2001 at 12:48 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 6:45 AM

I just downloaded the winter jacket for Mike which was done by thip. The thumbnail said it was for PC and Mac. I have a Macintosh so I used MacConverter to convert the zip file. I followed the readme file instructions and the coat shows up in the library. It seems to load but I can't see it and it doesn't render. I can select the individual parts to the coat and can change colors. I checked the properties and it says it is visible. I did a search in the Forums and found the initial announcement of the availablility of the Winter Coat but no other messages. I have Poser Pro Pack on a Macintosh. Am I the only one having problems with this file? Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

Well, I don't know what to tell you, no one else has had a problem that I've heard of, I listed it PC/Mac because it could be converted. I don't think that even thip could help you. Double check to see if all the files are in the right place? Maybe it was corrupted on download? Have you had a problem with any of thip's other item's?

Sorry to hear you're having trouble, Gawain. If you have Pro Pack (AND Mike's clothing pak), I'd suggest you re-create the jacket by importing the "raw" OBJ (all import options off), taking it into Setup and adding the skeleton from DAZ's Mike Shirt from the original Mike clothing pak. The jacket's already grouped and set up for materials, so you won't need to change anything, just to add that skeleton. Let's know how it works - I'm PC myself, but I've had several Mac people test the freestuff items, and this is the first such Mac problem I hear of. So your experience will be valuable info, please share.

On the PC side of the fence...I have downloaded it now three times and each time have had to run a salvage on it and it still opens with a file missing. I think there is some defect in the zip file itself. eng

Actually have just been having too much fun working with the other jacket...makes an exceptional peacoat. Thank you for the lovely gift, Thip. eng

D/l'ed the jacket and tried installing it on my own PC - no trouble there. Doesn't mean there's no problem on YOUR system setup. Confirms Jubal Harshaw's immortal words, that technology reached its zenith with the model T Ford, and has been growing decadent ever since :-( And as to your second post - thank YOU, Engelken. That peacoat looks superb - and you've done exactly what I hoped for : used the jacket as a starting point for new creations. That's the essential kick in doing freestuff ;-)

At one time there was a problem with with the zip file, that was fixed the next day though after someone IMed me. It is loaded in AOL space and you might have problems if you try to d/l in peak hours (like right after school lets out & people get off of work) early mornings and late evenings are the best times. engelken, what file is missing (btw, there is no .rsr file)? I could try e-mailing that one separately if you would like.

Thanks for all the feedback. I will try again this weekend.

That was the trick. Downloaded after midnight and no problem. Again, thanks for the jackets. So wonderful someone is working on some clothes for Mike. eng

I downloaded the file again this morning and used MacConverter to convert the files. I had put the files into the clothing folder in my earlier attempt. This time I followed the readme instructions exactly and it worked perfectly. Its a great coat with lots of potential. Thanks for everyone's help.

Great to hear you got it working (another kiss on Shadowcat's paw ;-) ). Thanx for the praise, too. I hope other people will do what Engelken's done, make newer and better things. I'm trying to do that myself at the moment, but, as you can tell, I may've been over-ambitious this time 8-|.....
