btw I now have Blender open (at home) and yeah with ctrl+MMB it zooms smoothly. But nothing with the wheel mouse.
Uh Oh! I'll have to check that out, as I don't have a middle mouse button.
OK, I just re-read Robyn's original post, and Yarp's response, and realized I wasn't reading it correctly.
IOW, if I want to zoom in to an object I'm working on in Edit mode, I use Ctrl+LMB. What I'm having a problem with is zooming in the Node Editor, because every time I open it, the default nodes are so tiny I'd need a major monitor sized magnifying glass (or 2 of them) to see it, and the only way to zoom in closer is with the mouse wheel, but I can never get it to work smoothly.
I just tried it again with Ctrl+Wheel, and it works slightly, but it takes a number of tries to get it to where I can see it comfortably, and then often it's too large. Oh well.
