If you search for NCH software you'll find several links to forums and blogs talking about what it does to your system in terms of adware, and automatically setting itself as the default app for various file types, etc. Some of them even state that its not detected by virus scans and still shows up after thorough cleaning. I've had enough problems with software like that doing similar crap to my system in the past that I'm always cautious of anything that advertises itself as 'free' these days. There's always some kind of catch - even if its just ads to encourage me to upgrade to their premium version. (I'm currently having the same problem with CCleaner - which I had to install a while back in order to get rid of some other crap. Now CCleaner has become the very type of software I was using IT to get rid of, and others like McAfee have become the same). If I want to upgrade then I'll go to their website and upgrade myself, I don't need a constant reminder and doing so makes me not want to use that software at all. So download at your own risk. But I'm not saying any of this to discourage you from sharing quality software and other useful bits, I'm just saying be cautious of freeware because they aren't giving it away out of the goodness of their hearts - there's some sort of catch involved.
