When the sim is stopped, you can hold down SHIFT to start it in modification-mode. This means holding Shift lets you use Mouse-Left-Click-Hold to drag your cloth to where you want it (which includes through collision objects). Releasing left-click causes it to snap-back into place (affected by gravity/inertia again). This feature is probably my favorite part of VWD. It simply doesn't exist in dForce.
zanth77 gave you the correct method. When you use the "dynamic deformation" using the SHIFT mode, the vertex (or vertices defined by the sphere) is/are displaced on a plane parallel to the screen. If you press the CONTROL key with the SHIFT key, the vertices are displaced on a line starting at the mouse and going to an infinite point.

One problem I'm running into with the new version is using SHIFT with self collision. If I import cloth with self collision (OR if I turn it on in Forces and Springs) using SHIFT at START of the sim causes error (see screen shots).
Note the workaround is to let the sim run before pressing shift.
I also tried this with using the assistant to do self-collision and reproduced it (have to un-check Start when doing assistant 'simulate' button so it doesn't immediately start the sim before you can press SHIFT to reproduce).
I also tried this with other clothing items and seems reproducible with anything.
Using VWD version 2.2.924.6464.

can you tell me the outfit you are working with? I will do a test if I have it or I will do a test with a similar dress. If I understand correctly, you want to run a small static simulation before to start a dynamic simulation?

In some forum post, someone recommended to press SHIFT at the beginning (and turning off inertia temporarily) to avoid any issues with inertia when the cloth pushes away from its collision object in the first frame. I've found this useful in the past, that's why I'll occasionally press SHIFT before running the static or dynamic sim.
The issue I'm running into with v2 can be reproduced with any clothing. Here are the steps:
Again, not a big deal since there are plenty of workarounds. I just wanted to report it since it doesn't happen in V1.

Thank you for discovering this issue.
I just made some tests and I have the same issue. I will correct that in the next version.
For now, there is a solution to do a small static simulation before to start a dynamic simulation:
Can you tell me if this solution corrects the problem for you.

I watched the tutorial of the cloth being pulled out of the collision object then simulating until there was no more Cloth Intersecting Collision object. How do I do that?
