Subject: Anyone needs a prop? Requests here

bantha ( ) posted Fri, 28 February 2020 at 1:26 AM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 3:13 AM

I've planned to do some more modeling on this weekend, both with ZBrush and Blender. I want the models to be usefull for someone, also I want to do stuff I did not think about making before. All models will end in freestuff here, they most probably won't have complicated rigs but can have morphs. I will include materials for Firefly and Superfly. I will keep the creation time in the reasonable range, so there may be compromises. All things I make for this thread will be CC-BY-SA, so you may even put it in a sold product, if you find it suitable any you thing that the quality is good enough for this.

Feel free to request whatever you like, as long as you understand that I don't promise anything. I may pick your request or I may not, Post away!

I'd like a kite. There is one in Freestuff but its tether (the control line) is static and cannot be shortened or change direction. It would be great if it had some morphs in the tether. Morphs to change the shape of the kite would be an added bonus but the tether is more important for posing.

Thanks!

The string could either be an easy pose so you can get the caternian or dynamic with the end at the kite and the other end conforming (presumably to the hand of the person holding it... or it could just be rigid :)

IIRC there was a way to make rope dynamic, by using an invisible strip for the cloth room and the rope in the soft decorating group. But having a single chain of bones isn't complicated, I guess. Probably I try both.

Yes the single strip was what I was considering, I've done something similar in the past, the problem comes from setting the choreographed and conforming so that you can place it correctly, I never got into rigging so dynamic is how I'd have to do it

Or, of you're feeling really adventurous, You could use bullet physics. Both the kit and the string would have to be separate objects so you could assign them to be choreographed. Have the Wind force blow on your kite, and the string will hold onto the kite.

I had a little less time than I thought, it took me a bit longer than I thought, so it's not ready yet. This is what I have. I stil need to create the holes in the fabric and make it more realistic, it does not look really tensioned. I need to make a knot where the ropes meet. And, of course, I need to rig it.

Wind Force and Dynamics Bantha. Make the string dynamic and use it in Bullet Physics, you won't need rigging. 😄

I don't like Bullet Physics ... but I do like easypose dials. Just my opinion ...

Are you talking about the script? Or about Easypose?

The script - no. Easypose: yes

I was talking about Bullet Physics. Don't get me wrong, I believe there are things that can be done to improve and streamline use of Bullet Physics, but I just wanted to know why you said you don't like it.

Kerya ( ) posted Mon, 02 March 2020 at 7:38 AM

Oh ... sorry for the misunderstanding. I tried Bullet Physics following one of those beginner tutorials when I got PP2014 and decided I don't like it. Don't ask me today what it was - too many years ago, sorry.

I'm writing a blog post now about Poser's Bullet Physics in the Directory. I was going to post it here, but ,well it was time for another Blog post anyway.

Prop request. An old-fashion Dr's medical bag. The one in the MP is way too pricey.

Do doctors still have medical bags? The only time I see them is on tv or in the movies.

EClark1894 ( ) posted Mon, 02 March 2020 at 6:03 PM

You know, I asked that question innocently enough and then this popped up on Google.

Do doctors still carry medical bags? In the interests of good clinical practice, it is expected that most GPs will carry a doctor's bag stocked with equipment and drugs for medical situations outside the surgery (on home visits, for example). Perhaps surprisingly, though, there are no specific regulations as to the items the bag should contain.

So, aside from a stethoscope, and bottle of aspirin, what should be in a doctor's medical bag?

Boni ( ) posted Mon, 02 March 2020 at 6:48 PM

Well, my request is for a story I am working on. I would like to see a hypo, stethoscope ... I have the other items needed from other prop packs. Mostly the bag itself.

So... something like this? Does it need to open? Or is this literally just a prop?

Boni ( ) posted Mon, 02 March 2020 at 7:51 PM

I would like it to open ... but would be happy just as is.

I have a prop request if you don't mind.

I just need a hollowed out high res tube with an open top and bottom. I'd like it to have a smaaaalllllll amount of thickness from the outside to the inner hollow part. The plan is to apply a glass material to it and put it on a base I have to make it look like one of those glass containers that collectors of pop/action/movie figures use.

Sort of like this except cylindrical: Hot-Toys2-12-Inch-Figures-Display-Case1.jpg

And like this:

08-techno-render-room-cropprop.jpg

I have the base and if I flip the base I have a top, so all I need is the glass! 😁

It has a morph to adjust the glas-thickness.

bantha ( ) posted Tue, 03 March 2020 at 4:29 PM

This is what I have right now. The tail needs some bowties, I guess. The ropework needs more polys before I can rig it (or Clark can show us how to use it with Bulllet). Most probably, the tail will need to be rigged too, the tail won't look good if it's always bent the same way.

Having a few problems myself, Bantha. I still have to make the latch for this bag, and then I hate UVing props.

In Bullet Physics, certain props need to be separate and not parented. This is so you can assigned them to one of three groups , choregraphed, rigid, and softbody. You would need the string to be a separate prop so you can choreograph it. Anything in the choreograph group will maintain it's shape, but can still be animated. You can constrain the string to the kite and (1) either use wind Force to blow the kite up high, or 2) place the kite where you want it and constrain it there.

Nice , dont forget this part Just "fake" the string look.

@CHK2033 I hate it when the checklist gets longer and longer. 😃

You are absolutely right, though.

@EClark1894 Looks good for me so far. I do UV-maps in Zbrush, that's painless for me. When you are done with modeling, send me the OBJ for mapping if you like.

I made a first test with Bullet using a string attached to a prop. It's easy and works well. Here is a "string" prop for your own tests: (simple a long, small tube):

http://adp.spdns.org/String.pp2

Position this prop and something other (I used Posers square primitive, X/Y scaled to 500). Rotate the string 90 degrees and bring one end tight to the square.

Enter Bullet and create a new simulation. Check the square under "Rigid Dynamic" and the string under "Soft Dynamic".

Select the string as the object to work with and create a "Animated Constrain". Move the selection where the string touches the square and "Set Handle". This handle (the little cross) can be found under "Groupings". Set the square as the parent for this constrain (because the string shall follow the square if it is moved).

Select the little brush left to "Set Handle Position". Set the brush to "More constrained" and paint the first row of vertices green (maybe you better hide the square to be able to see what you do).

Check "Live Simulation" and the string should fall down to ground on the not connected end. Grab the square, move it and see the string dancing :)
