Pick the camera > parameter dials > size > hover and click on the number and type in higher numbers. It will pull the camera out to show more area. Not at my pc so I can't screen cap.
Call me crazy - still dont see where to control this.

at the top of the viewport, select the figure and or actor that you want to see,
call me nuts - cant get this to work on a 3DS import!
Then under the display menu, select Frame Selected. or pess ctrl+shift+=
the camera will jump to where you want to go.
N.B. frame selected does not appear to work *well" on the "Body" actor, so if you want to jump to a particular figure, select the figure and then select a body part like chest or hip.
Ok. You're crazy. You're nuts...
A 3ds import? Is the import gigantic? That might be the problem. Poser scale is microscopically small compared to other 3d apps. Might want to scale down your imports if so. Probably the frame and orbit selected works by focusing on the origin of the actor, just guessing. Scale might play a factor. You can access a parameters palette via Window: Parameter Dials...
