There's Vue, Carrara, or Bryce for that, Poser is intended as a figure posing and rendering environment. A virtual photo studio basically. It was never really intended for vast vistas of scenery, although it can reasonably handle large scenes. I think the fundamental problem lies not with Poser, which performs as it's intended to be used, but with the gigantic scale of your imports which are coming from an alien environment (3ds Max) with completely different notions of scale. A human sized figure in Max is a titan by Poser scale standards.

As far as what Poser needs? That's a very subjective thing. Ask 100 people, get a 100 different responses. Welcome to 101.
