Subject: Saving La Femme In Pieces

Nod ( ) posted Wed, 05 August 2020 at 8:45 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 11:41 PM

Hi there, I've been using Poser since version 4. I've also been creating my own textures since that time, more recently using Blacksmith 7. I like to export the separate body parts in order to make sure that the are no seams, so I'll save out the arm on its own for example. However, I've had a problem when trying to export La Femme. When I try to export separate body parts for her, the files are all 0KB, I can only export the whole body successfully. Has anyone got any idea what could be causing this? I've don't have this problem with any other figure.

I didn't know that about La Femme, but then I usually export the character, which I've done with V4 in the past, and then delete the pieces I'm not interested in.

Needless to say, that would be a huge job if you wanted all the pieces, and not just one or two.

Also, La Femme is UDIM Uvs. Painting the entire mesh in apps that can't handle UDIM is tricky. Substance and Mudbox support UDIM, not sure if Blacksmith supports UDIM or not. Deecey has a uv conversion in her Freestuff that will convert La Femme to the more common stacked uv tiles via UVMapper. Painting across seams is a thing of the past.

Additionally, unless you are using GoZ to Zbrush or Colorcurvature's PML, exports of in scene figures as whole mesh results in body parts being broken into their related groups. Maybe this what you refer to when you're talking about seams. Other than working from the obj from geometries, FBM or PBM are only possible without seam troubles via the aforementioned solutions.

Use the group editor to generate a prop of the body part. Indeed set subdivision level to 0.

Use the group editor to generate a prop of the body part. Indeed set subdivision level to 0.

Creating the prop would be an extra step above simply exporting as wavefront obj, but yes, for whatever reason that's an option.

Utilizing the grouping tool will switch unimesh (La Femme default) to traditional skinning... But body part exports can be made via wavefront obj export from unimesh in scene, no 0 kb error... So create prop is redundant unless for a very specific reason.

Shortest route to body part export, turn off subdivision, file export:wavefront obj, from hierarchy dialogue select universe to clear, select desired body part, export. You can skip the grouping tool.

Hi there, That method works. It's practically the exact same way as I do it at the moment, apart from turning off the subdivision. Other than that, Blacksmith handles UDIM. Thanks again

As you can see, it worked. Test.jpg

Cool. Curious why you don't just paint the entire mesh rather than in pieces?

Cool. Curious why you don't just paint the entire mesh rather than in pieces? I paint most of the mesh, I just find it easier to get at the seams between the fingers and toes as other parts don't get in the way.

Oh I see now. I was thinking you were doing that with the whole model. Makes sense now, I do the same. Nice to see someone else on here working on La Femme. The figure seems to be getting some more traction and support than previous "official" Poser figures.

I think I may have spoken with you on here years ago, I might be mistaken but I think you were working on a dragon figure. It was years ago though.

Best wishes on your project.

Hi there, Nah, it wasn't me that was modelling a dragon. I'm still struggling with making things not look like a potato in Zbrush! ?

I'm actually surprised that Miki didn't get more support, because she was the best figure to come out of Smith Micro.
