Uhmmm, with Superfly and Cycles Root nodes or Physically-Based Root nodes, is there any reason to use RenderPasses ?

Usually it means that each part of the render is rendered individually. For instance dof, diffuse etc you'll later compose these in a photo editing software, ie photo shop. You can blend the different canvasses using layer blends to set the mood of the picture or bring out a lot more detail. This is often called a beauty render.

It's something like postwork but not per say. Also the beauty of it is, you don't have to re-render everything to change the mood or a small detail.

You probably wont have everything (dont know I dont use render passes or superfly in Poser so not sure what all it outputs ) but basically this is what you do with them.

BUT forgot to add, if your happy with the way your render look's and you feel there is no need to improve it even more then no I guess that's up to you, BUT no matter how good you think it looks, there's always room for improvement. renders / photos / anything.

Thanks, All. So RenderPasses is like compositing: taking renders and adjusting them at the end stage of the project, is what I gather.

Yes, but it is not like a complete picture yet. You complete the composition by pasting the different canvasses onto a new layer a d play with the settings ( curves, layer blends, color adjustments). This way you have more controle over every detail. And you can adjust everything seperately.
