Yes, you are correct ! This is a pose-able hierarchy of parented props.

I generated a BJD using Terawell Design Doll software.

Then I imported the OBJ (Design Doll only exports OBJ at this time) into Shade3D software in order to re-oreganise the geometry into actual dall parts. (You can probably do this with Blender3D as well, but I am more familiar with the with the process in Shade3D).
