Aye, cleaning out the machine is a good idea. I do mine - when I remember - fairly regularly. Even though it's on a shelf, it still gets full of dust and cat hair. Not only do I clean the fans, I get a toothpick into the processor heatsink and give that a good going over.
Another thing to consider is, if things are getting too warm even then, stick a desk fan near it. Obviously, not right on top, since the EMI from the motor won't do your machine a deal of good. :D
