Sorry if it's a stupid question, but what about asking Poser itself to reduce the geometry?

Just in case, this operation seems to be scriptable

Because the OBJ files already exist, all that is required is to edit the link in the CR2, rename it,  and have a fully functional lo-res figure.  Now that I have figured out the morph issues, we have another figure to play with.
